Tooth&Nail Theatre's Roger Benington is back from NY to direct the regional premier or Guillem Clua's provocative political drama SKIN IN FLAMES. The play takes place in an unnamed third world country. All the action takes place in a hotel faded from its former glory, but still preferred by westerners. Oddly, it is also the preferred spot for local suicides, of which there are many, as it is the tallest building in the city and therefore offers the surest end. This rather sad phenomenon is a dark reflection on the nature of the current repressive regime and the degree to which hope has faded from the country's population. Contains nudity and profanity.

Wed & Thurs, 7:30 p.m.; Fri & Sat, 8 p.m.; Sun, 7 p.m. & 2 p.m.; 2/23 matinee, 2 p.m. More info and tickets here.

Dance Classics Reinterpreted By Drumlessons

51ul6akmndl_ss500_
For volume one of the two DRUMLESSON albums, that CHRISTIAN PROMMER will produce this year he recorded 10 of his favourite dance classics as Jazz interpretations. Taking his favourite dance tracks of the last two decades and transforming the energy and magic of the originals into a performance of a jazz quartet (piano, drums, perc. and bass) was quite an interesting journey for him.

All started with the idea to record an acoustic version of the DERRICK MAY classic Strings of Life to warm up for the production of his first solo album. He recorded the basic idea some time ago in his new studio on the countryside near Munich. Upright piano played by ROBERTO DI GIOIA and drums by WOLFGANG HAFFNER.

Thought of as a "one-off" track for the fun of it, it sat on the shelf for a long time until ALEX BARK of the JAZZANOVA crew, came by and heard the track. Alex and the rest of the crew got so excited about this tune, playing it in their dj sets all over the world, that they soon decided to release a 12" with this track.

Released in May 2007 it was a fast spreading phenomenon. DJs and music fans from all sides of the spectrum got into this track. DERRICK MAY also gave CHRISTIAN PROMMER his thumbs up.

The idea of rerecording dance classics did not leave CHRISTIAN PROMMER’s head while he was preparing his debut album for Sonar Kollektiv. Feeling at home in the world between Jazz and Detroit Techno. And here we go – with an outstanding effect!

Gashley Furniture: Art Criminals

Artcrimesgashleyfurn

As if a Walmart weren't enough to make your trip down 300 West a distressing one, this lovely IKEA colored protrusion by (G)ashley Furniture has recently invited itself to the throw-up party. The historic warehouse they built this eye sore on was interesting enough on it's own, but they had to go and fug it up anyways. Pee-uke!
