NiteLite presents Lars Behrenroth Saturday May 17

Lbatwintermusicconf

Hot on the heels of our anniversary party, NCM is proud to present renowned Los Angeles DJ, Producer and XM Radio host Lars Behrenroth at the W. Lounge on May 17. Originally from Germany, Lars has moved and grooved crowds in clubs all over the world such as DEEP (LA), Club Five and Red (D.C.), Motorlounge (Detroit), ONE (Phoenix), Distillery (Leipzig, Germany), Queens (Paris, France) and more. His discography spans a variety of labels including Chez Music, Deep4Life, Compost, Sonar Kollektiv and most recently Liebe*Detail and Freerange UK. He has remixed The Rurals, Deep Swing, Dubtribe, MJ Cole, Slope, Arnold Jarvis, Kathy Brown and more!

I discovered Lars Behrenroth (pronounced Bear-en-roth) through his 'House Sound Of Hamburg' and 'Deeper Shades of House' internet radio shows, back when gas was cheap and internet radio was sheer novelty. His shows were a great connection to the worldwide house scene for people like us trapped in "red states". I've been trying to get him out here ever since but things just never worked out, until now. Finally the stars (and his busy schedule) have aligned to make this night of ear opening global house a reality. Lars will be bringing exclusive music from the recent Winter Music Conference as well as his own released and unreleased tunes. This is a one night only gig... at a ridiculous door price I might add, so COME EARLY, GET SWEATY and ENJOY the beautiful SUMMER night with us at the newly redecorated W. Lounge. Let's show Lars what SLC and NiteLite is all about and allow him take us on fantastic journey through sound.

NiteLite Presents LARS BEHRENROTH (LA/Germany) May 17th @ W. Lounge

Nitelitemayflyer2lrg

Always working, building, never stopping, never sleeping... up next, NCM is proud to present special guest producer/DJ Lars Behrenroth from Los Angeles at the next NiteLite party on May 17th.

I've been communicating with Lars online for years now, back when he was doing a radio show called House Sound of Hamburg (in Germany). From a distance I've watched his DJ, radio and production career steadily accelerate. What I love about him is that you instantly know that he does it for the love of music and that music is his true calling in life. Lars has moved and grooved crowds in clubs all over the world such as DEEP (LA), Club Five and Red (D.C.), Motorlounge (Detroit), Distillery (Leipzig, Germany), Queens (Paris, France) and many many more. With a who's who list of guest DJ's, his 4 year and running syndicated XM Radio program 'Deeper Shades of House' (DeeperShades.net) educates and illuminates while showcasing his own versatile but selective musical range; he can play any genre within dance/electronic/house music while still keeping it deep. It is the way he programs his sets and puts songs together that stand him apart from the rest.

Behrenroth also has impressive discography over a variety of labels including Chez Music, Deep4Life, Compost, Sonar Kollektiv and most recently Liebe*Detail.  He has remixed artists such as Kathy Brown, The Rurals, Deep Swing, Dubtribe, MJ Cole, Slope, Arnold Jarvis, Sven Weisemann and more. In 2008 we'll see his remixes coming out on Liebe*Detail Spezial, Ocha Records and on his own new label Deeper Shades Recordings. This Summer he joins the ranks of label mates Jimpster, Milton Jackson & Trevor Loveys with a stellar release on Freerange Records UK titled "Ice On The Sun" with remixes by the infamous Charles Webster and Atjazz.

I'm happy we've been able to make his visit to SLC possible after years of scheming. Mark your calendars for another night of underground dance perfection and thank you again for being part of the 'Movement'.

– Jesse

Download Jesse Walker Live at NCM 10 Year Anniversary

Nitelitencm10yeardownload

Thanks to handy digital recording devices, you can re-hear my disque jockey set from last Saturday's bangin' anniversary party. Click the above image or download the full raw set HERE (right click and 'save as'). The audio was graciously mastered by my friend Dan Morris and encoded at 160 kbps .mp3 - highest variable bit rate for good sound quality at a reasonable size. There were some really great moments and I can't thank everyone enough for supporting NiteLite and NewCityMovement.

The NewCityMovement 10th Anniversary Party was a huge success last Saturday. Thanks to everyone who came out, even waited in line to celebrate and dance with us at W! Thank you to Nick James for his musical and emotional support and to Dave Newkirk for taking these cool photos. I've put all of them in a gallery here. I am going to upload my DJ set this week to download for anyone who wants a copy. Again, I had a wonderful night and I hope you did too. Don't miss our guest Lars Behrenroth from L.A. via Germany next month on May 17th.

NCM Turns 10 - April 19th 2008

Nitelite10yranniversaryx

NewCityMovement is now ten years old.

TEN marvelous YEARS of House music, design & culture here in Salt Lake City. It's hard to believe it's been that long since my friend Sergio Hernandez, a DJ transplant from Chicago and I started a party together at the old Manhattan Club called New City. Ah, those were the days. Of course, now my back is broken from carrying around all that equipment... mixers, turntables, speakers, my ungodly giant vinyl record box and various lighting gadgets. Was it worth it? Yes!

The idea behind that first club night encapsulated everything I wanted to project going forward with my music, events and subsequent website (http://www.newcitymovement.com/). Most importantly I wanted to share the special feeling this truly unique art form had brought me in my life and to keep it alive - in my own way - in Utah. To create time and space for unheard, underground, intelligent, deeper dance music to be heard hasn't always been easy, or popular. That's why 'New City' began as, and is in essence an imaginary place. A shining futuristic vision of Salt Lake City where all our dreams could be fully realized.

So, looking back on a decade of NCM has me reflecting on the essential question of why I still love House music and DJ in the first place? Without getting too P.L.U.R. on you, here's what I arrived at...

NiteLite Presents DJ DEALER (Denver) Feb 16th @ W. Lounge

Nitelitefebx
Djdealersfx

This party is going to be one seriously HOTT MESS. Do not miss it. Get your Valentines hunnies out on the NiteLite dance floor and shake your money makers to one of the West's most respected independent DJ/Producers, DJ DEALER from Denver, CO on Saturday, February 16th.

DJ DEALER's BIO:

It really has been all about the MUSIC for DJ Dealer for over a decade when it comes to the house music scene and the music industry in general. Whether it’s releasing individual projects on notable labels such as Subliminal or doing original productions and remixes as Juke Joint or as the Pound Boys the founder and owner of Look At You Records has pretty much done it all.  As a DJ, his skills have taken him all over the world – NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, London, Rome, Melbourne, Milan, Sydney, Berlin, Johannesburg, and Manchester to name a few. Additionally, he has been able to play alongside such DJ legends as Frankie Knuckles, “Little” Louie Vega, and Steve “Silk” Hurley. Although DJ Dealer seemingly just goes about his business “quietly”, much of his production work has made quite a bit of noise in the house community.  Remixes of Angie Stone “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” Whitney Houston “Love That Man,” and Mary J. Blige “Your Child” all went #1 on the charts and original productions “K Pasa” and “The Right Way” were huge club smashes all over the world.

In addition to all of this, Dealer has found the time to establish one of the world’s most recognized independent house labels, Look At You Records, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2007.  Dealer started Look At You with a commitment to releasing quality house music and a dedication to providing a whole new generation of DJs and producers with exposure to an international audience.  DJ Dealer has done original productions and remixes with artists like Joi Cardwell, Lisa Millett, Dajae, Usher, Mariah Carey, Byron Stingily, Brandy, Yolanda Adams, Kim English and Sandy Rivera.  Look at You has also released records from artists like Blaze, The Basement Boys, Soul Providers, Knee Deep, Bini & Martini, The Audiowhores, and many others.  Dealer has set the bar high – past, present, and future. Scheduled for release in 2008, DJ Dealer will release his first full length artist album tentatively titled “Joyride”.  The album will feature many surprises and will include collaborations with many house superstars including Lisa Millett, Inaya Day, and Charles Dockins – more info and details coming soon!
